They are such a warm and welcoming couple. The property is even better than the photos, and the garden by the river is stunning. Our biggest regret is only allowing 3 days in beautiful Uzes a) because of this lovely base and b) the area has so much to see it's impossible to see it all in such a short trip. Book for longer and book here is our recommendation, but leave a space in the calender for our return! Simon & Kathy Shovelton Young couple

Website: See More One of the new places which I was happy to find on our recent visit to Uzès and can recommend as 50 minutes by car from our house. Click on my website and caption below to see full post. Vaison -la -Romaine: - Great place to visit in just over an hour via the very lovely tourist drive (not the auto-route) steeped in Roman history. Quieter on a Sunday but has a lively brocante market. Split into 2 halves by the river - well worth exploring the variety of art galleries and beautiful ruelles (lanes) up towards the old château. Plenty of places to have a leisurely Sunday lunch too although watch the prices! Really enjoyed our meal at Racines in Uzès -a new restaurant just 100 metres down the end of our street and with the "enfant terrible" chef Axel, whose food we have always admired even though his passionate nature has seen him change restaurants and towns a lot!!
Here is a picture summary of my first few days here.
I had been meaning to look for the Castellum long ago and finally decided it was time! It's in a quiet suburban part of Nîmes in a na... rrow 1 way street - easy to miss but if only it could talk! Nîmes itself has a lovely elegance to its historic centre and grand boulevards, but often visitors get a different impression if they come via the commercial or industrial centres. Excellent shopping - shoes, clothes, jewellery etc. and of course plenty of places to eat. Parking is easy in underground car parks but the best way to visit is catching a bus from Uzès for 1. 50 euro - a bargain! and walking straight from the railway station to the Roman arena, Maison Carré and historic centre. See More Visited one of my favourite places - Aix-en-Provence as it has been several years since my last visit. Drove to Avignon and took the train to Marseille and then another to Aix city centre. Renowned for its association with the post - Impressionist artist Paul Cézanne, its architecture, many high end shops and its wide café lined boulevard Cours Mirabeau it's an easy place to wander through and get slightly lost!

Always tricks me how the arena suddenly appears as you meander through the narrow streets of tall townhouses. Actually went to a bullfight in the Roman arena many years ago with 2 friends with whom I was backpacking around Europe. Sitting right at the very top on the stones jutting out it was an amazing gladiatorial type atmosphere but have had no desire to go again! Fortunately attitudes have changed and conducted differently now. Place du Forum just near where I stayed very famous Café Terrasse made famous by van Gogh's painting "Café Terrace at Night" with statue of Frederic Mistral and Grand Hotel Nord-Pinus of Picasso, Christian LaCroix and Hemingway fame opposite. Video ad for Van Gogh' life works show at Les Baux-de-Provence Carrieres et Lumieres gives best idea of sensory experience. My own videos would not load for some reason! On the trail of Vincent Van Gogh! It's hard not to think of him when you visit towns close to Uzès where he spent important phases of his painting evolution.
Luxury real estate Uzès - Gard At a crossroads between three famous territories – the Languedoc with its fine wines, the Provence region and its oceans of lavender, and the Mediterranean with its turquoise waters – the Gard area offers a myriad of exceptional landscapes. Its charming setting is highly acclaimed by luxury investors. The Cévennes national park, with its chestnut and mulberry trees, is classified as a "world biosphere reserve" and will delight anyone who enjoys nature and peaceful environments. The vineyards, olive trees and orchards spreading through the Gard's many valleys offer a beautiful backdrop for majestic old Provencal farmhouses and lovely abodes just a stone's throw away from the world-renowned Gard bridge.
