Murren Quick Facts Resort: Murren Altitude: 1651m Ski Area: Jungfrau Ski Region Canton: Bern Train Station: Yes Main Language: German Few ski resorts can match Murren for tradition, charm or scenery. These three factors have helped make this tiny Swiss village so popular amongst generations of skiers and families, especially the British who have long, historic ties to Murren, dating right back to the early 1900s and the famous Lunn family, Sir Henry and Arnold, who organised both the first winter sports package holidays and the first organised slalom race, held right here in the village. And then there's another British institution that helped make the village and the Schilthorn mountain above it so famous - James Bond. Yes, 007 tracked down Blofeld to his Alpine lair - Piz Gloria, in the 1969 Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Murren is a bit harder to get to than its neighbour Wengen, or the other main Jungfrau resort, Grindelwald, but its dramatic views and scenery are worth the extra bit of travelling and its slopes are generally quieter.
