End the day sharing stories over drinks with other guests at the Gunyah Restaurant. Set high above the ground with treetop views, the Gunyah is the central dining room, reception and common lounge set in the heart of the camp. Dining here is definitely a highlight and you can indulge in sumptuous dishes such as local oysters and lamb, paired with a glass of two of premium local wine. Paperbark Camp features 12 canvas safari-style tents surrounded by towering paperbarks and eucalypts. Built above the ground and carefully positioned for privacy, all of the tents boast a wraparound deck with comfortable outdoor furniture, full insect screening and polished hardwood flooring. Although the tents are incredibly comfortable, the camp's advanced eco-accreditation means that you will not find any heating, air-conditioning, TV, fridge or power points in the tents. You can find power and WiFi in the Gunyah, or maybe you could use this as a good excuse to switch off and get back to nature. Deluxe Safari Tent Designed for two, the Deluxe Safari Tent is the ideal choice for a romantic night together.

Jeremy and Irena Hutchins founded Paperbark in 1999 after falling in love with safaris. True to form, it delivers all the luxuries of safari in a uniquely Australian iteration. The site is bordered by the Booderee National Park, Jervis Bay National Park and Jervis Bay Marine Park. Bikes and canoes are available to all residents, and there are walking trails snaking throughout the property. For those of a less active frame of mind, The Gunyah Restaurant is one of the best fine-dining restaurants in the region, and it's in a treehouse. Step in for cumin-salt encrusted kangaroo with beetroot relish; and pan-fried local fish with steamed mussels and olive tapenade. There's a strong selection of local wine, as well as beer from brewers in nearby Nowra. But, there's no need to leave your tent if you don't want to. There's no power, but there are solar lights and gas hot water for the tub and the open-air shower. This isn't a caravan park, either – the queen-size bed will likely be more comfortable than your own at home.
Breakfast in the restaurant was also lovely with a choice of a continental breakfast or a hot breakfast all served with a side of those gorgeous balcony views. Balcony Views For those wishing to explore the area surrounding Paperbark Camp there are a couple of ways to do this. Complimentary bikes are provided for guests as well as canoes and stand up paddle boards. I would recommend a peaceful paddle along Currumbene Creek for those, like me, who enjoy a bit of extra adventure. Otherwise Huskisson is only around 4 kilometres away by road. Enjoy birdwatching on the boardwalk You can canoe or SUP on Currumbene Creek At Paperbark Camp it's all of the little things that are included that will make your stay so welcoming and comfortable such as the friendly service by staff and the little extras provided, such as phone charging facilities in the restaurant or the thoughtful thermos of hot water delivered to your tent before breakfast for your morning coffee or tea. It's easy to relax here The bed was a King Twin bed with beautiful linen and a stylish mosquito net. Our outdoor bathroom featured a private toilet, basin, bush shower and separate bath with views of the paperbark trees behind us. Make sure you schedule in a candlelit bath during your stay here to truly experience the joys of glamping. While you soak in the tub you are treated to the tranquil sights, sounds and smells of the Australian bush. The King Twin bed This is definitely glamping - the outdoor en-suite Provided within your tent is everything you will need for a relaxed and comfortable stay. There are towels, slippers and gowns, hand made soaps, complimentary water, coffee and tea, solar-powered lighting, candles, insect repellent and even a handy little torch for an evening stroll or your walk to the restaurant. What you won't find in your tent are cooking facilities, a fridge, power points or any modern distractions like televisions. One of the features I loved about Paperbark Camp is that they have their own restaurant on site which means you don't have to worry about driving anywhere or deciding where to go for dinner.
