The applicant or the student may not know what he or she needs but could perhaps share more information about things that are difficult for them and things that are easier for them to do. When Writing an Accommodation Plan • Of key importance is that the IDT review accommodation needs in discussion with the applicant and that determinations • be made based upon current needs • be individualized • are not based upon preconceived ideas or misperceptions of an individual's capability based upon the type of disability or the services previously received. • Must consider all areas of the JC program Other Sources to Consider for Accommodation Ideas • Job Corps Disability Website • Reasonable Accommodation section, Possible Accommodations subsection • Job Corps Learning Disabilities Website • IEP as a tool section • Job Accommodation Network (JAN) • Searchable Online Accommodation Resource (SOAR) Chicago Region – Kim Jones • San Francisco Region– Sylvia Domagalski • Boston and Dallas Regions– Molly Rosinski • Atlanta and Philadelphia Regions– Pat Jackson

But what do you do if more than one student needs the copy? The teacher runs to the copier between classes, then hunts down all the students that needed copies. This became expensive and a huge time-consuming process that didn't always get the students their notes in a timely manner. In an effort to increase some independence we have students take pictures of the whiteboard using their personal cell phone devices as a way to capture class notes. However, what we end up with is out of focus photos and no way to find specific notes because photos are not searchable and a student can't remember what day they took the photo of a specific topic. Too much time was spent searching through photos only to finally ask the teacher or another student for their notes which ultimately lead to teachers running back down the hallway to the copier. The Rocketbook app and the free PDF pages provided on the Rocketbook website have allowed us to try a new process with students who need copies of classroom notes.
by Amy Garbacik Two years ago I began my role as the District Assistive Technology Specialist providing technology supports for students with high incidence needs such as difficulties with reading, writing, math, etc. In this role, I have been able to support teachers and students by accessing the curriculum through the use of technology. Previous to this role I was a high school special education teacher for 13 years. I have found over the years, many students with disabilities need a copy of class notes as part of their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) accommodations and this can be quite a large task to supply for each student. As a high school special education teacher, I had up to 18 students on my caseload all with individual classes, needs, and supports. Providing copies of class notes was a very large part of my day to make sure my students got each of their copies for each class period. We have tried using Carbonless notebooks where a peer in the class takes notes and gives the carbonless copy to the student needing copies.
