Once a small fishing village, Bognor Regis on the South East coast in West Sussex is just under 70 miles from London, so perfect for weekends and luxury short breaks by the sea. Lie on the beach, stroll along the promenade with a bag of hot chips or visit the many cafes, arcades or souvenir shops, Bognor Regis has it all. In the evening the town can get quite lively as the nightclubs and bars start to fill up making it popular with large groups, hen and stag parties. If you are travelling with friends or you're a large family be sure to browse the group accommodation that sleeps a minimum of 8 people. Nearby Butlins is a popular destination for families with children and means the self-catering cottages in Bognor Regis tend to book up well in advance all year round. The accommodation listed here includes beachfront cottages and pet friendly holiday homes ranging in price from budget rentals right up to large luxury beach houses with sea views and direct beach access. Some of the properties offer disabled access and many have off street parking.
BUTLIN'S BOGNOR REGIS RESORT - Reviews (West Sussex) - Tripadvisor
It is ridiculous but again it is simply because they are over selling and overcrowding the place and then charging the customer to find a way around the crowds! It is pure manipulation of what appears to be working class families such as ourselves. 6) After the age of 8 you will struggle to entertain the kids. The indoor activities are absent, the entertainment they do have is at additional costs, and even the shows are mostly centred around under 8's. I am sure the old swimming pool could be converted to a laser quest or climbing area at more additional costs for the family! Considering the story of billy butlins being one based on family and fun at reasonable prices they have well and truly entered the modern day business model of not giving one cr-p about the people and squeezing every penny possible out of them while offering as little as possible in return. After several years our regular family adventure has come to an end. I suggest getting ripped off at Alton towers or centre parcs, at least they don't hide the fact that you're going to pay and that they are commercially driven enterprises!
Andrea Hardaker Last updated at 14:14 05 April 2005 It was the broken down boiler that made us do it. 'I need a holiday, ' I wailed. My husband, wrapped like a turkey in front of the cooker, agreed. 'How about a week at Butlins? There's a half term deal for £200 - the children will love it. ' We booked into the ship-shaped Shoreline Hotel, gazing out over the south coast. The rooms are well designed - children had their own living area complete with television, DVD and bunk beds. For adults, a refrigerator proved a godsend for bedtime tipples. As it happened, we needed a bottle of wine to get any sleep. Remember The Princess and the Pea? Think boulder. The mattress was surprisingly hard and lumpy. That said, the entertainment for five-year-olds was superb. Redcoats exceeded expectations, complete with 'Cbeebies' charm. My eldest got involved in circus training, pottery and wizardry. The youngest wasn't so fortunate. There's a playgroup but resources are limited. A little imagination could help; there's more to life than felt-tips and a slide - even for toddlers.

In 1999 Butlin's erected a large indoor leisure park, the buildings construction sharing aspects similar with the Millennium Dome in London. In 2005, a new £10m hotel, called "The Shoreline" was unveiled at the Bognor Regis resort. A second hotel "The Ocean" opened on the site in Summer 2009 and general landscaping and upgrading has also taken place. Postcards featuring the Butlins' Reception Hall and Sun Lounge were reprinted in the book Boring Postcards (1999). More luxury hotels are planned for the site. In May 2009 Butlins have also announced that they will be looking into adding a third hotel to the Bognor Regis site. Pier at low tide The I nternational Bognor Birdman was an annual competition for human-powered 'flying' machines held each summer. Contestants launch themselves from the end of the pier; a prize being awarded to the one who glides the furthest distance. Rarely taken completely seriously, the event provides competitors with an opportunity to construct improbable machines complete with outlandish dress.
We have visited Bognor resort 5 times now, we usually come once a year and had recommended it to friends and family in the past but I wouldn't anymore. Initially we loved it, we stayed in the hotel and apartments and with 3 kids it has been ideal... HOWEVER 1) As with most places gaining popularity they have chosen profit over people. It is now so crowded, the amount of hotels, apartments and day visitors seems to have outgrown the actual space they have for entertainment! The queues for everything are now longer, and with the increase in people the service and quality has slipped! Hence my opening sentence "profit over people! " 2) The apartments "Gold" are not value for money and should not be advertised as such! We had dirt on furnishings and the materials used in the apartments are sub standard and the maintenance is just a quick fix. Everything in the apartment is very basic, old and very minimal. For somewhere being advertised as "Gold apartments" I dread to think what the "Standard apartments" are like and this is not fair on families who are trying to do the best they can for their children.
